In the vocational school Business English learning process,both students and teachers are confused about the writing part.English writing also become one difficulty in the teaching process.Many teaching practices have proved that there is a correlation between the writing proficiency and vocabulary quantities of the students.Because the limitation of the vocabulary quantities,most vocational school students have no idea in their writing,especially in their Business English writing.At last they have to use unpracticed English to make up one passage in their Chinese mind.Now more and more specialists and front line teachers begin to focus on permeating the practice of lexical chunks in the real class teaching.They hope that the students' English learning abilities will be highly improved through the breakthrough of the chunks quantity and quality.According to the abundant and precious teaching practices of the specialists and scholars from abroad and at home,the author tries to apply the lexical chunks approach to the real Business English class teaching in Grade one of vocational school in order to help to improve the vocational school students' writing proficiency.The lexical chunks approach is specific to study the chunks.This approach is according to Lewis's theory(1993)that language consists of grammatical lexis not lexicalized grammar.The author selected two classes from her workplace which are Class 16 and Class 17,Grade 1 of Dalian Economics and Trade School to carry out 14 weeks' experiment to certify if the lexcial chunks approach can improve the students' writing proficiency.Thirty-five students from Class 16 were experimental subjects,simultaneouly Class 17 had the same subjects.The students in the two classes all major in Business English.The author adopted the traditional writing teaching method in Class 16,while Class 17 was chosen to apply lexical chunks approach as experimental class.This experiment aimed to cultivate the awareness of lexcial chunks for Class 17.The two classes were both taught by the author.Furthermore,the author also presented two experimental questions:(1)To what degree can lexical chunks teaching,which is used in the course of Business English writing,improve students to increase their language output?(2)Which aspects could lexical chunks teaching make students' writing proficiency enhanced in the course of Business English writing?To make sure the reliability and validity of the experiment,the author applied qualitative and quantitative research methods to carry it out.The author applied interview and survey for qualitative research and used SPSS 19.0 to analyse the results of pre-test and post-test for quantitative.According to the data,the author concluded that immersing lexcial chunks in Pusiness English teaching class process can improve students' writing proficiency in a certain degree.The Business writing proficiency has no comparatively changes in the control class which weren't applied lexical chunks approach.Lexical chunks approach not only help the vocational school students' writing proficiency to improve in a certain degree but also enhance the learning interest and confidence in their English writing.Certainly because the limitation of the experiment there still exists some practical problems.Some more available and effective stratigies are needed to put forward by the relevant specialists and the front line teachers in the further English learing.
