The emergence of the early Russian conservatism, tracing its source,is the interweaving product of Russian historical heritage and the pursuit of modernity. As a kind of social and political thought trends,Russian conservatism which not only contained both certain ingredients or features of traditionalism and a distinctive mark of the times, had been taken shape systematically in the first quarter of the 19th century; In the course of Enlightenment era,Russian society had been transformed or westernized quickly and deeply by the revolutionary dynamic of the state. However, more than a century, the conflict between modernity and traditional values which brought about by the "catch-up" way of Russian modernization had emerged in the late 18th century;Owing to the French Revolution and Tsar Alexander I's political and social reform initiatives, the "double challenge'' of the international and the domestic level had led that Russian conservative thought came to the fore fully for the first time in the 19th century and the first quarter of the period. As one of the typical representatives of the early Russian conservatives,Nikolai Karamzin was not only influenced by the Western ideology and culture of the Enlightenment era,but also devoted himself to the cause of the Enlightenment in Russia. In addition, the series of revolution and radical reform occurred at home and abroad, resulting in Karamzin revert to the study of Russian history, and to deconstruct the Russian traditional monarchy in "historicism" research methods and attitudes, which became an important core of Karamzin's conservative thought and an important part of his ideological heritage. In addition, touching on the issue of Russian serf emancipation,Karamzin did not oppose the ultimate liberation of the peasants;but in terms of contemporary Russian social realities and his social practices,Karamzin came to the conclusion that taking a gradual approach would be more in line with the interests of the Russian state and the peasants themselves.
