On Pursuit Of Modern Literati Painting

Chinese literati painting was produced in the Jin Dynasty,flourished in the Song and Yuan,moved to the period of great prosperity in Ming and Qing.Initially,the literati painting was used to distinguish the works of court painter and civilian painter,however,with the development of history,artists increasingly focused on expression of emotion and personal characteristics,as well as pursuit of artistic conception and imagery in the creations.In the mid-eighties of the twentieth century,when westernization became a popular trend,some forward-looking artists began to introspect the contemporary artistic value in Chinese traditional paintings,a ideological trend which advocated regression of national tradition emerged.To inherit traditional pattern and to indicate national emotion,“new literati painting” conception was put forward and artists attempted to reveal ancient temperament through modern drawing skills.Although named by “new”,new literati painting can't escape from the stereotypes that focus on the modality.Mr.Wang Xuezhong proposed the conception of "modern literati painting",concluded and summarized the modern literati painting systematically based on the painting's?Artistic conception,art format,imagery,philosophy connotation.This conception contained philosophic thought and then endowed the literati painting with new contemporary features and poetic imagery.Based on Mr.Wang Xuezhong's paintings and related research,the gist of this thesis is to explore his work style,artistic thought and artistic content,and endeavor to research the value and impact in modern literati painting of Mr.Wang Xuezhong.The research strategy of this thesis is to conclude and summarize on the basis of the existing data,analysis and study Mr.Wang Xuezhong's specific modern literati paintings,meanwhile probe into the artistic characteristics through the related examples.Simultaneously,this thesis is also aiming at providing new inspiration for the major issue of modern literati painting and furnishing reference for further study.
