Cultural diversity enables the world more colorful while its disparity brings some barriers for people under various cultural backgrounds.When foreign exchange students study Chinese,the communicative barrier from cultural transfer is nothing less than native language itself,so that it should not only focus on the research about native language but only pay close attention to language culture.Linguistic Image of the World is a linguistic research about the relationship among language,cognition and reality which is human-centered.Starting off from cultural reality,it can devise new methods and visual angles to resolve the learning difficulties during the process of cross-cultural communication through digging into cultural characters and distinctive minds of various nations manifested from cultural reality.Learning a foreign language means learning a Linguistic Image of the World,which can promotes foreign language learning.Simile idiom is an essential part in idiom,which inherits the widely social characters and formally standard structure of idiom.However,the choices of figurative object gathering the special nationality,which can best embody the national culture.However,it can be seen from those achievements of Linguistic Image of the World that the theories of practical Linguistic Image of the World are lacking in China,although they are extensively approved in Russia linguistic area and most researches of Linguistic Image of the World are revolved around the Russian.Those researches about the contrast between Chinese and English are lacking in the same way.It also can be seen from the research about idiom contrast that the comparative studies towards simile idiom are still lacking.This paper focuses on the learning barriers that result from cultural diversity for English learners.Under the direction of theory of Linguistic Image of the World,it can classify the Linguistic Image of the World of simile from the individual visual angle and summary the overall character and personal character between Chinese and English----the something in common and diversity of visual foundation and cognitive results.Then give a main discussion to the reason of diversity of Linguistic Image of the World.Finally,the paper makes a discussion about the ways to help English native speakers to best understand Chinese smile idiom through Chinese and EnglishLinguistic Image of the World and establish Chinese simile idiom Linguistic Image of the World in textbook compilation,teaching methods and preparation of extroverted dictionary.It can also help learners best understand the meaning of simile idioms behind Chinese and English simile idiom through the common characters and personal characters to eliminate the difficulties during the process of cross-cultural communication for English learners.Meanwhile,it can minimize the detrimental effects during the process of teaching Chinese as a foreign language as well as enable effective communication among various cultures in order to promote the development of International education of Chinese language.
