The Influence Of American-educated Vocalists Back Before 1949 On Chinese Vocal Music Development

Along with the accumulation and precipitation in historical social reform,Chinese vocal music art has formed a relatively complete system with national characteristics and international height so far.This achievement resulted from the inheritance and development for thousands of years,as well as the people who have made efforts for this.Therefore,this thesis aims to analyze a small group of Chinese vocal musicians who have made contributions to the development of modern vocal music art,and to find some enlightenment for Chinese vocal development from them.Zhou Shuan,Ying Shangneng,Huang Youkui,Yu Yixuan,Gao Zhilan are a common group who studied in America and came back to China before the finding of PRC.They have a great impact on the development of modern Chinese vocal music,any of whom deserves our deep research.These vocal musicians went to America to study at the beginning of the 20 th century and came back to their motherland after they have completed their studies,all of whom dedicated their whole life to the development of Chinese vocal music.This is not accidental,which lies in their enthusiasm of vocal music,as well as their historical mission of the country and society.Zhou Shuan is the pioneer of modern vocal education in our country,and Yu Yixuan is one of his students.Their research achievement in vocal music teaching,performance,and theory are the treasures for us to study vocal music.Ying Shangneng is one of the first professional vocal music educationist in modern China,whose writing,Yi Zi Xing Qiang,has come to the fore of the theory works of modern Chinese vocal music.What's more,he is a productive composer.Huang Youkui and Gao Zhilan,also coming back from America before the founding of PRC,are Chinese famous singer,vocal music educationist.They devoted their whole life to the development of Chinese vocal music and cultivated a large number of vocalists.Therefore,it is necessary to conduct a joint analysis and comparative research of the five vocalists with the same learning background and the same struggle work.This paper aims to summarize some essences of Chinese vocal music education,and find some enlightenment in vocal music teaching,vocal music theory and its futuredevelopment.This paper mainly analyzes the following six parts.The introduction mainly analyzes the existing research data of the five musicians,also including the analysis and investigation of the musician group returning from America before the founding of the PRC,and reveals research purpose and significance,characteristics and innovation,research conditions and breakthrough points and so on,in particular,a detailed analysis of research status at home and abroad.The first part summarizes the current situation of musicians studying abroad by analyzing the systematic summary and comprehensive collection of the three major study groups in Europe,Japan and America,and emphasizing the core research object of this paper,the five dazzling vocal musicians coming back from America.The second part is a general description of American vocal music system from the end of the 19 th century to the beginning of the 20 th century,and the analysis of the association between the five vocalists and the Shanghai National Music Institute and their post-return working background.The third part and the fourth part are the core of this thesis,which contain the research significance and characteristics.First of all,through the selection of songs in the concert of the five vocalists and their changes in the way of singing performance,these two parts explore their commonality and personality.Then,these two parts interpret their contributions on vocal music teaching,creation,performance skill,theory research and other aspects influences.The fifth part is a reflection of music rooted in the culture,serving the people,hoping to get the most profound enlightenment from them.The conclusion reviews the contents and structures of this thesis,summarizing the efforts of those returned vocal musicians for the development of Chinese vocal music.
