Study On Modern Anhui Chamber Of Commerce (1905-1938)

The Anhui modern chamber of commerce originated in the trend of the modern Chinese chamber of commerce.In 1905,the Anqing chamber of commerce,the earliest chamber of commerce in modern Anhui,was founded,and other Anhui chambers of commerce were established everywhere in succession.With the establishment and perfection of the organizations,the activities of the chamber of commerce occurred.The modern Anhui chamber of commerce participated in the Anhui local society though a series of activities,so that it has a profound and long-term influence on Anhui 's development.Therefore,although the modern Anhui chamber of commerce is a common member belonging to the big family of the chamber of commerce in our country,instead of a unique and distinctive "best leader",it has played an absolutely important role in the process of modernization of Anhui because of its participation in many historical events in modern Anhui.So,it is of great significance to study the modern history of Anhui.The paper is mainly divided into six parts.In the introduction part,firstly,the purpose and significance of the research are explained.Secondly,the related academic history is reviewed.Finally,the research ideas,methods,innovations and shortcomings are systematically introduced.The main part of the thesis consists of four chapters.The first chapter mainly analyzes the background of the origin of modern Anhui chamber of commerce,introduce its establishment and organization,and systematically clarify four important periods of the development and the evolution of the chamber of commerce:exploration period(1905-1915),development period(1916-1926),transient turbulence period(1927-1929),transition period(1930-1938).From the perspectives of promoting the local industry,stabilizing the local financial market,and resisting exorbitant tax,the second chapter explores its positive effects on the local economic activities.Based on assisting the local government,responding to local anomie,participating in the nationalist movement,the third chapter discovers is the chamber of commerce has its own weaknesses from the perspective of political activities in spite of its vital role in the local politics,such as the contrary dilemma between merchants' private interests and national interests.The fourth chapter mainly inspects the social commonweal activities and commercial education activities of the chamber of commerce,and demonstrates its social responsibility and the meager contribution to the commercial education in the modernization of education in Anhui.Finally,it comes to the conclusion.It systematically analyzes and summarize the four chapters above,and tentatively proposes an important reason for the decline of the modern Anhui chamber of commerce--the erosion of power.
