"Deutsch-Chinesische Unterrichtsstunden,Kurzgefasste Anleitung zur Erlernung der Anfangsgründe der ChinesischenSprache",published by Adolf Haupt in 1914,is an elementary Chinese textbook written by Friedrich Wilhelm Mohr,who is the interpreter of the Governor of Kiautschou during the German colonial period.This textbook includes pinyin system,lexis and grammar.And this dissertation shall firstly lead a special study on the writer,the background of the accomplishment of the book and the teaching contents,mainly focusing on analyzing its teaching of pinyin system,lexis,and grammar to detect its teaching methods and specialties.Six chapters comprise the whole textbook:The first chapter expatiates the significance of the selected topic.Then the introduction of the historical and present background of Chinese teaching in German,the theories,methods adopted as well as the sources of the references shall be showed in this chapter.The life experiences and works of Mohr,along with the writing process,background and the arrangement style of Deutsch-Chinesische Unterrichtsstunden,shall be introduced in the second chapter.This textbook is generated from the specialization of Chinese study within German at that time and the present needs of Chinese teaching inside Chinese colony.Judging from the scope of its application,the purposes and the arrangement style,it could be considered an elementary Chinese textbook.The third chapter shall analyze its teaching of pinyin system.Mohr's phonetic system is based on the traditional pronunciation of German,inherited and developed the Lessing-Othmer-System and the Wade-Giles-system.The analyzation of its initial and final systems shall be displayed in this paper and comparisons among two influential Chinese Pinyin systems shall be showed simultaneously to detect thespecialties of Mohr's phonetic system.Chapter Four is about lexis.The selection of vocabulary aims to be practical and close to real life,paying much attention to the female application of the book.Cultural learning has been carried throughout the lexical teaching,giving expression to the local specialties and Times' characteristics.And an emphasis has been put on the lexical accumulation,which can be efficiently learned by making the best use of the appendix.On all accounts,the lexical teaching is detailed carefully,led mainly by word-by-word with compound of words as a supplement.The fifth chapter analyzes the grammar teaching of the book.Primarily based on the first and second level of difficulty,idioms of syntax in this book meet the needs of primary learning,attaching much importance to the practical function.Relying on the framework of German syntax,Deutsch-Chinesische Unterrichtsstunden leads grammar explanation by translation between Chinese and German.Through the whole analysis,the parts of speech and the succession of knowledge have been highlighted with plentiful and practical examples followed.The sixth chapter gives a summary of the dissertation,making a basic evaluation of advantages and disadvantages of this textbook.The advantages of the textbook lie in the distinct arrangement and the suitable difficulty;highlighting the importance of knowledge points,which aims at the needs of learners;paying close attention to cultural learning,combining the hotspots of Times and the specialties of districts.Shortcoming lies in the shortage of practice and relying too much on German translation.What's more,the part of vocabulary hasn't been labeled,and the distribution of vocabulary results in too much difference.
