This dissertation leads a special study on Talking(1-6),Chinese teaching materials for Singapore non-Chinese schools in the 1960 s.The Ministry of Education published the materials in response to the Singaporean Pact's language policy and promulgated the YING-WU-YIN Curriculum Standard,Singaporean Chinese teachers and scribes,etc.The textbook is adapted from the Mandarin textbooks in mainland China and Taiwan.It is rich in native language with complete pronunciation,vocabulary,grammar and practice.This paper first explores the background of books,the age of choreographer,the source of editors and the selection of materials for “Talking”(1-6).Secondly,it focuses on the features and teaching methods of pronunciation,vocabulary and grammar.The full text is divided into six chapters:The first chapter expatiates the significance of the selected topic.Then makes a brief review of the research literature on the history of Chinese teaching in Singapore and Malaya,and the dissemination and use of Republican teaching materials in Southeast Asia.It also introduces the theories,methods and sources of literature used.The second chapter examines the background of “Talking”(1-6),speculating the publication of the age,the source of the editor and selection,introduction writing style and content.By analyzing the use of teaching materials in Singapore since Chinese education and the attitudes of the rulers on Chinese teaching,it is clear that “Talking”(1-6)is based on the adoption of English as the first language by the Singapore DAPin order to achieve ethnic integration.Other ethnic languages as the second language learning policy was born for the non-Chinese school primary school spoken Chinese teaching materials;through the promulgation of the national language policy and press information analysis,it speculates that the textbook was published in the 1960s;through the study of the textbooks and editors,speculating that the textbook is to adapt to the Chinese textbooks in mainland China and Taiwan;through the analysis of the textbook compilation methods,a clear textbook compilation of more standardized,directory and textbook use methods are arranged;through the contents of the analysis of the composition,that the teaching material emphasis on vocabulary and daily oral teaching,do not pay attention to pronunciation teaching,exercises are as unitary as the previous summary of what they learned,along with the summary of grammars.The third chapter examines the “Talking”(1-6)phonetic symbols which carry out the whole books without the use of Hanyu Pinyin program,poorly spread in China.Singapore Chinese teachers and scribes have always used phonetic Symbols.Through the analysis of objects used in teaching materials,the reasons can be demonstrate for the arrangement of phonetic symbols.Analyzing the teaching materials in phonetic arrangement of time to see whether the teaching of voice teaching late is reasonable.The fourth chapter carries on the statistics and the analysis to the vocabularies of“Talking”(1-6),summarizing the lexical arrangement of the teaching material.The nouns mainly focus on the nouns which are closely related to the students ' study and life,which is in line with the students' cognition.Local characteristics reflected in the vocabulary part of the arrangement of local people use other ethnic languages after contact with the new words,etc;analysis of vocabulary teaching methods includes the use of graphic interpretation,morpheme meaning,vocabulary aggregation,setting context background and other teaching methods.The fifth chapter analyzes the grammar teaching of “Talking”(1-6),dividing the parts of speech and analyzing the textbook how to arrange these parts of speech,focusing on the teaching of verbs and quantifiers;sentences and sentences focuing oncomparative sentences,“Yes”sentence and question sentence teaching.Grammar teaching methods and vocabulary teaching are similar,by comparing the editin of reunion,graphic tables and contextual interpretation,and taking into accountthe characteristics of grammar localization.The sixth chapter makes a basic assessment of Talking(1-6).The textbook meets the requirements of Singaporean authorities for the compilation of textbooks and is a successful adaptation of the textbook adaptation of Chinese textbooks in mainland China and Taiwan.In addition,the teaching materials are also suitable for second-language oral teaching of children in early childhood,which is of reference to the adaptation of Chinese as a second language teaching in Southeast Asia.The teaching of pronunciation is arranged relatively late in the book,and the whole textbooks lack practice as well as the exercises which tend to be simplified and the localization of grammar remains discussion.
