Modern national vocal music originated from the same stem with traditional vocal music,which reflects the cultural tradition,aesthetic characteristics and artistic style of China.It makes its development on the reference and absorption of the western bel canto and getting its achievements in singing skills,forms of expression and vocal music teaching after going through hundreds of years change.O n the basis of collecting and sorting out a large number of literature,the author makes a careful analysis,classification and generalization to modern voca l music works,such as "Royal drunk" and "Mei Lanfang",finding that modern vocal music makes a reference from traditional Peking opera in singing and composing,hoping to carry the traditional Peking opera forward and achieves it value in the world of art and culture.The paper is divided into five parts.The first part gives a brief definition of modern vocal music and then introduces the development of modern vocal music and traditional Peking opera.The author looked up a great deal of data when giving the definition of modern vocal music,making 1949,the found of People 's Republic of China,as the timing point.During this time,as a branch of the vocal system,the production of modern vocal music not only made its reference from western bel canto's singing skills,but also inherited the essence of C hinese traditional vocal music.It contains the traditional cultural characteristics of C hinese people and forms its special style because of the background of new social culture,the difference of aesthetic and customs,which reflects a strong sense of science,contemporaneity,nationality and artistry.The second part mainly discusses the relationship of modern vocal music and traditional Peking opera and the sameness and differences between them.Modern vocal music and traditional Peking opera are two different music art forms,they not only have their own characteristics but also have something in common.The characteristics of the former lies in its change and advancement in the course of its development,which makes modern vocal music become the product of the Chinese and western vocal culture.The later mixed various excellent Chinese opera arts and paid more attention to the lingering charm and the inheritance of C hinese traditional culture in the course of historical inheritance.The third and fourth parts set examples to analyze the reference modern vocal music has made from traditional Peking opera in some works from a micro perspective.Taking ‘Royal drunk' and ‘Mei Lanfang' as examples.In the content of music,modern vocal music imitated the theme,words composing,musical structure and change of plate-type of traditional Peking opera.In the aspect of accompaniment,modern vocal music imitated the accompaniment skills ‘building a tight relationship between the singer and the music',‘the singer sings slower than the accompaniment' and ‘ the singer and the accompaniment at the same speed' from traditional Peking opera.In the aspect of singing,modern vocal music imitated the skills of traditional Peking opera in breath,articulation and enunciation and run-cavity,such as ‘put the words in the center',‘singing according to the words',‘singing in clear articulation and a mellow and full tune' and ‘using the tunes according to one's own understanding'.In the aspect of performance,modern vocal music imitated the ‘figure',‘expression of eyes' and ‘tact' of traditional Peking opera in stage performance,making a perfect combination between singing and performance.The fifth part discussed the meaning for modern vocal music to imitate traditional Peking opera.The author thinks that traditional Peking opera on behalf of Chinese opera art provides a proper environment and gives nutrient to the development of modern vocal music.The elements that modern vocal music absorbed from traditional Peking opera will not only offer valuable experience in its singing,composing and performance,but also remit the atmosphere of ‘the same in singing' and ‘the same in style',which will be good for the harmonious development of modern vocal music and traditional Peking opera.
