The Place Of Confucius In Eastern Han Culture And Politics Seen From Stone Inscriptions Of The Period

Confucius as the founder of Confucianism is a great educator,thinker and philosopher in history of China.Confucianism has profound influence on the emergence and development.At the same time,Confucius has others irreplaceable special status in the history fo China and even world history.In terms of the master study,research on Confucius?status has bbecome the most important subject since the last century.The great scholars of the period have already maken a lot of discuss and analysis,also it ranged over a number of fields,including essay of historical role,social position,cultural status,and so on.Up to now,this statement has been established in academic circles.It is referring to that: following Dong zhongshu?advices,Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty formally introduced the “Abandon all other schools,Only Confucianism”,Set five classics docotors,Officials from study of Confucianism,Pull the Confucian classics to the position,Form a series of worship of Confucius system,Confucius have achieved the status domination.So Confucius also attained the highest reputation and status in China?feudal society.Of course,also some people hold different views: Confucius was reputed to be quite tall in his life.But after reading the Han Dynasty inscriptions of Confucian Temple in Qufu,we feel confused:exactly as social leaders of the times said,Confucius has got very important history status,and Han rulers had worship of Confucius as an important state institution during the reign of Han Wudi.Then,why is Confucius left out in the Eastern Han Dynasty?For example,there is not a full-time staff,who is responsible for the specific affairs of worship of Confucius,there is a goventment branch,paying for the cost of repairing Confucian Temple and making sacrificial vessels.Confucius sacricial etiquette did not conform to his highest status.His political status is doubtable.for this reason,it is quite necessary to study Confucius?s cultural status and political institution according to the Han Dynasty inscriptions.In this paper,I will analyze objectively Confucius?s cultural status and political institution in Han Dynasty according to the Han Dynasty inscriptions,such as Yiying inscription,Liqi inscription,Shichen inscription.In the meantime,I will also base on the historical materials and the views of many scholors.Then come to a conclusion:as far as Confucius?s cultural status and political institution is concerned,it is not decided compoletely by the psychological needs of the feudal emperors.In other words,Confucius can enjoy so profound impact in Chinese culturel history because he made outstanding contributions during the development of Chinese traditional culturel.However,imperial cultural status does not mean that he can be pulled to a corresponding political institution domination.
