Tang Dynasty was a period of historical changes and powerful family politicsturning to civilian politics at this time which laid a distinctive imprint in the Chinesepolitical system. Tang Dynasty followed the systems of Sui Dynasty, on the one hand,it inherited all the political systems of the Sui Dynasty; on the other hand, itdeveloped and improved all these systems, especially it has the most obviousperformance in terms of the officer-selecting system.The officer-selecting system of Tang Dynasty was mainly composed of threesystems. They are the Imperial Examination System, the Institution of Family StatusSystem and The Flows Engaging in Politics System. Among which the first andsecond played a significant part in the officer-selecting system, whose developmentand changes exerted a far-reaching influence on many aspects of Tang Dynasty, suchas politics, economy, culture and life, and even their change of status in differentperiods directly controlled the political trends of Tang Dynasty. The Institution ofFamily Status System has gradually developed into a mature, detailed andcomprehensive system,and it presented a large number of new characters and changes,including its muti-hierarchy, the detachment of civil and military, choosing officialsaccording to talent and learning, the separation between family status and politicalinterests, as well as its original decadent and backwardness. From all the charactersmentioned above, it should be easy to see the Institution of Family Status System haspractical significance of the political rule in Tang Dynasty and its declined historicaltrends. The basic framework of the Institution of Family Status system laid in theTang Dynasty, the continuous development of the imperial examination system showsthe vitality and progress, which objectively formed a reciprocal relationship betweenthe Institution of Family Status system and the Imperial Examination System in TangDynasty. Besides, the impact of the Institution of Family Status System on thedevelopment of the Imperial Examination System and the mutual influences betweenthem, all contributed to the more in-depth and more systematic discussion about thehistorical aspects of Tang Dynasty.The thesis makes a comparative research to the new features and changes in the process of specific implement with the entry point of the study and researchconcerning the contents of the Institution of Family Status System in Tang Dynasty. Inaddition, the author tries to reveal relationship between the Imperial ExaminationSystem and the Institution of Family Status System from the perspective of politics,economy, culture which based on the analysis of the mutual influences exists in them.By the comparative research to the development and the changes of their status, weare expected to have a comprehensive and better understanding of the Institution ofFamily Status System.
