Based on psychometric methods, this study aimed to test the validity of five-factor model of Successful Aging(SA)and explore the prevalence and related factors of the SA.Then we examined the reliability and validity of The World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale-BREF in detecting SA.Used the scales that corresponding to the five-factor model and The World Health Organization Quality of Live Scale were implemented among elderly aged 60 or more in Shangcheng District and Tonglu County of Hangzhou,China. Results suggest:(1)The five-factor model of SA could be determined as three principal components, which were the physiological factor, psychological factor and social-environmental factor.(2)In the sample,144 subjects were determined as SA,so the rate of SA is 17.29%.Gender,age,economic satisfaction and family situation were related factors of SA.(3)The Quality of Life Scale has good validity and reliability. The result of factor analysis also determined the Quality of Life Scale as three principal components, the physiological factor, psychological factor and social-environmental factors, which was consistent with the Five-factor Model. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.88,with the optimal value of 81.Thus:(1)In the study sample,Theodore's five-factor model of successful aging was summarized as three components:the physiological factor, psychological factor and social-environmental factors.(2)The rate of successful aging among older adults in Hangzhou was 17.29%and gender, age, economic satisfaction and family conditions were related factors of successful aging.(3)The World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale has good reliability and validity in the aging population and it is suitable to be used as a measuring tool for successful aging.
