The E-C Translation Of Sentence Patterns In EST From Differences Of Chinese And Western Thinking Mode

Thinking mode constrains linguistic structure and influences the patterns of sentences. The different thinking modes will be inevitably presented in the difference of linguistic structure.For this reason, the large diversity in the linguistic structure of English and Chinese is originated from the great differences of Chinese and West thinking mode. By exploring the influence of thinking differences on the expression of sentence patterns, this paper tries to find out the deep-rooted reasons that influence the differences of sentence patterns between Chinese and English, and then, put forward the translation strategies to solve the problems and difficulties in translation.Considering the characteristics of EST text, this paper concludes in the translation practice that the impacts of thinking mode differences on the sentence patterns can be found out in long sentences, passive sentences, and the sentences containing modal verbs. For the translation of these three types of sentences,the article summarizes several translation strategies, including literal translation, linear translation, omission, division,inversion, and the change of the voices. These effective translation methods and strategies will help to resolve the translation problems and difficulties which lying in the sentence patterns, but rooted in the thinking mode.
