In daily life, people frequently use“x yeshi(de)(x??(?))”structure to express negative judgement and mild complaint unconsciously. To a certain degree, the usage has become conventionalization. There are lots of researches on separate“ye(?)”and“shi(?)”,but the study of“x yeshi(de)”from a pragmatic perspective is still quite scanty.According to Lyons(1977),subjectivity is a property of language, which concerns the linguistic expression of a speaker's point of view or attitude in discourse.According to Brown and Yule(1983),there are two main functions of language, one is the function of information-transferring,and the other is the function of maintenance of social relationship.Spencer-Oatey's(2000)rapport management theory focuses on the use of language to establish, maintain and threaten social relationship. Therefore, this thesis attempts to explore the mild complaint of the structure from pragmatic perspectives conforming to subjectivity and rapport management theory.Research shows that because of the subjectivity, the speakers try to express the complaint via the structure.Meanwhile, under the restriction of the rapport management theory, the speakers take the interlocutors' face and social rights into consideration,“x yeshi(de)” structure expresses the mild complaint. The pragmatic study on the structure can provide a new perspective of the research on daily communication strategy, and is beneficial to the teaching of Chinese as a second/foreign language.
