A Comparative Study Of Tribulation Consciousness In Mo Yan And Yan Lianke's Local Novels

Mo Yan and Yan Lianke are both influential figures in the contemporary Chinese local color literature.Their vivid delineation of local color novels cannot be overlooked.The former,an eminent Nobel laureate,is famous for his depiction of “Northeastern Gaomi Town.” The latter,a “Kafka Literature Award” winner,excels in the description of “Western Henan.” They have both similarity and difference at the same time.Speaking of its similarity,they have similar life experience,for they are both villager since birth,suffer from severe starvation and depressing adolescent years,witness the vicissitudes of rural life.Speaking of its difference,they hold different literary ideas and are exposed to different regional culture.This thesis uses the comparative research method to study the misery consciousness of Mo Yan and Yan Lianke's local color novels by using the theory of Bakhtin Carnival,Schopenhauer's tragedy theory,narrative theory and the realism of Yan Lianke and analyze this unique value of their local novels.This thesis is divided into three chapters: the first chapter is entitled as “Mo Yan and Yan Lianke rural novels of the emergence of the sense of suffering”,this chapter is a comparison of “ rural suffering”,“suffering”,“spiritual suffering”.Mo Yan is concerned about “rural suffering”,highlights the human nature and reshapes history;while Yan Lianke focuses on exposing the rural reality.Mo Yan's emphasis lies in the unpredictable fate.The second chapter is entitled as “Mo Yan and Yan Lianke local novels writing the artistic expression of suffering”,both of them tend to employ carnival language description,carnival festivals,carnival characters,but MoYan stressed the performance of the vigorous vitality of the people,while Yan Lianke focused on the suffering,the culmination of the climax and the mysterious imagination.They are using a multi-perspective narrative of rural suffering,but Mo Yan is good at "children's perspective" to see the local suffering,Yan Lianke prefers "souls of the souls" cold view of human diversity.The third chapter is named as "Mo Yan and Yan Lianke misery consciousness and its spiritual way out",they are suffering from the formation of its experience and creative position.They both want to depict human suffering in the early stages,but they are forced to face the cruel reality.Therefore,Mo Yan chooses a direct way to describe the “ Gaomi people”,while Yan Lianke chooses a submissive attitude to show the "villagers in Henan Province," the struggle of the struggle for the whole.The difference between the two choices of the way out also reflects their cultural diversity of their own lives.This article has made a comparative study of Mo Yan and Yan Lianke 's local novels with the misery consciousness as main method.It is also worthwhile to understand the local tribulation,understand the local reality,and analyze the status quo of human nature.
