The Early Stage Of The Theory Of Yu Dafu Novel Phenomenon Of The Deconstruction Of Youth

Since the period of the later Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China , from Liang qichao's calling of "to renovate the people" to Chen duxiu and Li dazhao's words about"youth","youth imagination" had gradually become the main manifestation of the zeitgeist related to the double construction of modern nation-state and modern individual subject. Since 1921, Yu Dafu created a series of novels basing on the materials of life experiences of the Chinese youth in Japan, that made Yu successfully get into the May Fourth literary arena These literary creations of Yu Dafu, which are based on personal living experiences, present questioning and deconstruction about the "youth imagination".Basing on this, except the introduction and conclusion part, the main body of this article is divided into three parts:The first part focuses on the issue of modern nation-state imagination. In these novels, most of the educated youth went to Japan for study with the original personal ambition of saving the nation by industry. However, during their life in Japan, they were not interested in the study and were addicted to the literature. That constituted certain kind of internal echo to the life experience of abandoning science and turning to the literature of Lu Xun, Guo Moruo, Yu Dafu, who were typical representatives of those students studying in Japan. This career turning to the enlightment was due to the stimulus of experiences in Japan and the penetration of traditional Japanese culture, that revealed the complex psychological experiences of those Chinese students studying in Japan and observe issues about modem Chinese imagination.The second part deals with the issue of modem personal subject's construction. The educated youth in those novels gradually awaked under the influence of the western humanism ideological trend. However, after awaking, they were poor lonely and indulgence, "having no way after awaking from dreams". Yu Dafu thinks the biggest success of the May Fourth movement is "the discovery of 'individual' ”,but his early novels presents the binary opposition of creation and theory through "the writer's biography" and "the expression of life". This binary opposition is due to the writer's individual life experiences, shows Yu's complex motivations for the creation, and also presents Yu Dafu's complex emotions about the enlightenment of the May Fourth Movement.The third part discusses the literary history significance of Yu's early stage novels.Though the narrative phenomenon "deconstruction of the youth" in Yu's early novels,it also won widespread praises from the youth and led to the "popularity of Yu Dafu". This II kind of "popularity" was due to that his novels appropriately fit the life experience of those awaked youth during the May Fourth period, and it also revealed the fragility of the May Fourth enlightenment. With the spread of proletarian revolutionary movements and the brought in of the Class Struggle Theory, Yu Dafu also advocated for farmers' arts and popular arts, and began to change the direction of creation. However, that has been unable to provide effective supports for the advocated theory, and the significance of literature history of those later novels is not as good as that of its early novels.
