A Report On The Translation Brief History Of Culture And Art Of Meixian County(Chapter 5) Under The Guidance Of Translation As Adaptation And Selection

As an important part of Chinese traditional culture,folk culture fully embodies the characteristics and charm of local culture.In recent years,the cross-cultural communication is increasingly frequent with the accelerating process of globalization,so the translation of local folk culture plays an important role in the transmission of traditional culture of Meixian County.This report is a case study of the C-E translation of chapter five of the Brief History of Culture and Art of Meixian County.The source text shows plenty of information of the temple fair,rain-praying,marriage customs,funeral customs,dialect and patriarchal clan system of Meixian County.Under the guidance of Translation as Adaptation and Selection,the author of the report tries to analyze the problems in English translation of folk culture of Meixian County.This report consists of six chapters.The first chapter gives a brief introduction to the source text and the significance of translation task.Chapter two describes the translation process of the task,including pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.Chapter three is the literature review.Chapter four mainly introduces the Translation as Adaptation and Selection.Chapter five is the core of the report,in which the author of the report analyzes the translation of proper names,culture-loaded words and discourse from linguistic,cultural and communicative dimension.The author of the report adopts literal translation,free translation,transliteration with annotation and free translation with annotation to deal with the proper names and culture-loaded words of the folk culture,and intercompilation and amplification to analyze the translation of discourse so as to maximize the transmission of the traditional Chinese folk culture.The last chapter is the summary.The author of the report finds that a quality translator not only needs solid bilingual ability and cultural competence,but also needs a long-term learning and experiencing.
