Research On Theory Of David Harvey's Space Criticism

The theory of space critic ism is important achievement which David Harvey kept the keen insight and the deep theoretical thinking with contemporary space-production of capitalism.As an achievement in the development of Harvey's thought,the theory of space criticism reveals the essence of contemporary space-production of capitalism.This article aims to introduce the theory of Harvey's space criticism systematically,and discusses the following three parts.The first part mainly elaborates the social historica l background and the theoretical background of the theory of Harvey's space criticism.With the development of globalization,the relationship between capital accumulation and spatial expans ion has undergone dramatic changes in the process of globalization.The capitalist mode of production has changed from the traditional "Ford doctrine" to the new "flexib le production" gradually,and the role of space has become increasingly in the production of capital prominent.In addition,the Western capitalist countries faced with dilemma and crisis of urban development.This series of social reality became the main historical background of the theory of Harvey's space criticism.Meanwhile,Harvey c laimed his standpoint and method of Marxism.Harvey also learned from the theory of Lefebvre's space production and the theory of Foucault's power space criticism.By researching the relationship between space production and capital accumulation,the theory of space criticism embodied,and further deepens the understanding of space.The second part mainly elaborates the main content of the theory of Harvey's space critic ism.Firstly,it introduces historical geographical materialism which is the foundation of Harvey's theory.On the basis of historical materialism,Harvey added the space,geography,environment and other important factors and constructed historical geography materialism.At the same time,in order to complete the research on social space,the historical geographical materialism was seen as the basic method.Second it introduces Harvey's reflection on globalization.Harvey critic izes the capital expans ion and the development of political economy in the era of globalization with the perspective of space.Then,I talk about Harvey's critic ism of urban development with the logic of capital.From the princ iple of social process determines social space,Harvey analyzed the formation mechanism of contemporary urban space,the accumulation of capital and class struggle.Finally,it briefly discusses the body and the political person as the basis of universal appeal on the scale of globalization,and Harvey's the utopian ideal centered on human rights.The third part is the dialectical evaluation of the theory of Harvey's space critic ism from its contribution and limitation.Harvey has opened up a new perspective of historical materialism,which has enriched and developed Marxism in the new historical period.At the same time,theory of Harvey's space criticism may provide reference for the understanding and resolution of the conflicts in the current urban process of China.But it is undeniable that the construction of Harvey's theory still has the limitation,and his view is questionable.
