Jeffrey Eugenides is a contemporary American writer , his novel Middlesex which gained The Pulitzer Prize was critically acclaimed for referring to the rights movementof the intersex . Domestic scholars less study it because of the cultural barriers . This paper was focus on the concept of the "Middlesex",combined with social and cultural background of the intersex , and using the method of text interpretation and culturalanalysis to review the writing of the intersex in this novel.As an original culture of the wizard and healer in the tribe , the intersex was defined as "abnormal" in the process of westernization,and then subjected to the medicine discipline-the genital reconstruction for the intersex baby . At last, the intersex not only beard the Sequelae of the medical treatment, but also taked several moral metaphor on them . Until the rise of liberalism and the rights movement of the intersex in 1960s,then people start to review the image of the intersex . People warmly welcomed it for Middlesex provided this opportunity.In the process of writing,even though the writer promised the "middlesex"orientation , but neither the gender and the ethnicity which caused Carl's identity dilemma,nor the other factors which around the image of Carl,he adopted a compromise with traditional cultural norms of writing, thus caused false and "monster"feelings of Carl's image.And then the intersex as a promise to overthrow the power as aincest,desire , sex,moral and political has dispelled,and "the promise of the monster"was smuggled to the traditional culture norms.
