Halliday's theory of three meta-functions,as a very important theory in Systemic Functional Grammar(SFG),can help us to better understand the linguistic features and the speaker's intention of a discourse,as well as explore the ways to achieve equivalence in translation.Based on the theoretical framework of SFG,this thesis gives a contrastive analysis of the RWG 2016 and its English version with the aid of the three meta-functions theory. With quantitative and qualitative methods, the features and differences of the ideational function, interpersonal function and textual function in these two texts are discussed. The significant factors are explored through empirical study,in an effort to test the applicability and validity of SFG in political discourse analysis.Principles and methods for political discourse translation are also summarized to try to provide suggestions for translation practices. In the existing literature, some studies have ventured to carry out discourse analysis from the perspective of SFG.However, the application of SFG in political discourse translation using a contrastive approach is not frequently found. This thesis attempts to provide a new angle for political discourse translation and make up for the lack of research results. What's more, quantitative and qualitative methods are both applied, which help us to better test the applicability of SFG,enhance the accuracy of analysis, and also apply cross-disciplinary knowledge to linguistic phenomena.
