A Experimental Study On The Characteristics Of "Thailand Cavity" From The Perspective Of Tone Supersegmental Elements

Thailand Chinese learners of Chinese pronunciation has a very high degree of recognition, as long as the Thailand Chinese learner speaks one word , you will know the nationality, therefore, people often call the special accent "Thailand cavity". Once formed the Thailand cavity, it will be difficult to correct, which could interfere the further study.In this paper, through the method of phonetic experiment and perceptual experiment,compare the supersegmental elements about tone duration, pitch and intensity between Chinese and Thailand Chinese learners, in order to explore the typical characteristics of"Thailand cavity" . Based on the experimental results, the author proposed targeted recommendations of teaching Chinese in Thailand .This paper is divided into five parts:The first part, introduction. This part introduces the reason of this study, and relevant researches on the features of Chinese tones about Thailand Chinese learners.The second part is the experimental description. This part introduces the sample sentences and speech makers , and describes the recording method, emphasizes on how to use the Praat for the tone cutting, and what cutting standard is.The third part, the experimental design, contains a total of three sets of experiments.Experiment one: a comparative study between Thailand Chinese learners and Chinese on the duration of Chinese tones. Through phonetic experiment and speech perception experiment, got the tone duration characteristics of Thailand learners on listening and speaking, comes to the conclusion that tone duration varied little, during the second half of the sentence, tones literally stretched, the longest tone shows at the end of the sentence,which couldn't be corrected easily in-depth study.Experiment two: a comparative study between Thailand Chinese learners and Chinese on the pitch in Chinese tones. Through drawing and analysis of Thailand and Chinese tone domain chart, waviness chart, summarizes the salient features of pitch in Thailand Chinese tones: tone range is relatively narrow, pays more attention to the pitch at the end of the sentence .Experiment three:a comparative study between Thailand Chinese learners and Chinese on the intensity in Chinese tones. For the first time put forward the concept of "Strength degree", by drawing and analyzing of volume ratio chart, the strength degree chart,summarizes the characteristics of the Thai people in the aspects of pronunciation intensity:distribution of energy in Thailand Chines pronunciation is much more uniform; in the second half sentence, tones literally stretched with intensity weakening, which is similar to the "sheep voice" ,long and weak.The fourth part is about teaching suggestions based on the experimental results.According to the experimental conclusions, puts forward teaching suggestions to improve Thailand students' pronunciation, namely: strengthening practice, expand the tone range;enhance the cadence, fluctuation; pay a attention to the duration and strength of the second half sentence; pay attention to the pronunciation in the end character of sentence; make visible pronunciation with the help of voice software.The fifth part is the conclusion. Summarizes the research conclusion and points out the lack of research.
