This thesis, from the perspectives of pitch, duration and phonation, has researched the entering tone’s monosyllabic tone and bi-syllable tone patterns of Jianghuai mandarin in Anhui province (which mainly covers three places:Anqing, Hefei and Wuhu). The data of this thesis was extracted by using EGG signal and Real-Time EGG Analysis and at the same time referring to the25%criterion level algorithm. This thesis adopted T value method, normalization method and25%criterion level algorithm to analyze datas and finally found out the monosyllabic tone’s tone patterns in the three places.Based on the analysis of entering tone’s duration in the three places, this thesis holds that there are three stages in the development of Jianghuai mandarin in Anhui province. In the first stage (Wuhu), the entering tone has already had the sign of getting longer. In the second stage (Hefei), the entering tone is in the process of getting longer. In the last stage (Anqing), the entering tone has already become longer. The entering tone of Jianghuai mandarin in Anhui province has obvious stage characteristics in the aspects of pitch, duration and phonation type. These characteristics are shown as follows:Pitch:Characteristics in the aspect of monosyllabic tone:The entering tone’s monosyllabic tone value is stable in the first stage; there are no differences among different generations and ages. However, in the second and third stages, the monosyllabic tone values have generation differences. The young people’s entering tone’s tone value will change and will be lower than that of the old people, while the ole people’s tone value will not change.Characteristics in the aspect of bi-syllable tone:When the entering tone is combined with the level tone, it’s necessary to adjust the voice register if the first word has an entering tone; while if the second word has an entering tone, there should be both a voice register adjustment and a series of other changes in type of tone and tone arch. However, when the entering tone is combined with another entering tone, the entering tone’s tone value will usually not change if the first word has an entering tone, while the entering tone will change a lot if the second word has an entering tone. For the dialects in Hefei whose entering tone is getting longer, when the entering tone is combined with another entering tone, there are no obvious rules in the change of pitch.Duration:In addition to the finding that three stages in the development of Jianghuai mandarin in Anhui province, this thesis also finds that there are differences in the degree of lengthening when the entering tone is in different positions. When the entering tone is in the second word, the degree of lengthening will be the highest; when the entering tone is in the first word, the degree of lengthening will be the lowest; while for the single word that has an entering tone, the degree of lengthening will be in the middle. Based on this finding, this thesis put forward the theory of "degree of lengthening" and concludes that the degree of lengthening of young people will be higher than that of the old people and the degree of lengthening of female will be higher than that of male.Phonation:Based on the previous studies and the comparison method in linguistics, this thesis proposes a model to study the phonation type of entering tone in Chinese dialects. This model will mainly take the OQ (open quotient)and O/C into consideration. At the same tine, SQ(speed quotient) and FO will also be considered in the process. With all of these elements taken into consideration, this thesis concluded: firstly, for the entering tone in the first and last stages, its phonation type is comparatively unitary, while for the entering tone that is getting longer, its phonation type will tend to be diverse; secondly, for the same dialect, there will be differences in phonation type among different generations:the young people’s phonation type tend to be diverse while the old people’s phonation type will be comparatively unitary; thirdly, the same informant of each dialect point, there will be differences in ways of articulation:It is given priority with modal voice which in monosyllabic and the first word of entering tone. Occasionally, there is creaky voice and breathy voice. There are kinds of phonation types of second word which is entering tone, as much as modal voice and creaky voice, both and breathy voice and high pitch voice.
