| Paul Hindemith(1895-1963)is the composer,music theorist in 20th century.He was born in Germany in 1895,while the European music is in the late romanticism,more and more composers beginning to seek breakthrough.In this situation,Hindemith chose a relatively"conservative" practice for music creation and music theory.Mr.Hindemith was the teacher of Tan Xiaolin,a Chinese famous composer who nurtured other great composers like Luo Zhongrong,etc.Luo Zhongrong inherited the tradition of paying attention to the basic teaching from his senior teachers.He translated the craft of music composition and passed it on his students,such as Chen Qigang.In the other word,Hindemith's influence on the development of the Chinese music and contemporary creation was long and profound.This paper is an analysis of three Chinese modern composers' work which affected by Hindemith's music theory based on his book the craft of music composition.This paper mainly divides into the introduction,chapter one to five and the concluding.Firstly,it will introduce the formation of the theory,its dissemination in China,and the impact on the new music in China;Then the paper will discuss how to build the three-in-one,tonality conception,harmony theory and melody composition.In this part,I'll choose three work of three Chinese composers,Tan Xiaolin's art song Peng Lang Ji and Luo Zhongrong' Quintet of woodwind and the first movement of Chen Qigang's Iris Devoilee.However,any theory or the method of music analysis has its own limitations or goals.So,does Hindemith's theory apply to the analysis and creation of Chinese music?This is the basic issues that we need to understand and clarify.At the end of this paper,we will summary the significance and limitation of Hindemith's theory.I hope that it could provide some reference to the research of Hindemith's theory,Chinese modern composition theory and the works of composers who partly affected by Hindemith theory and other issues. |
