Research On Akshobhya Buddha Statue During The The Period Of Nanzhao And Dali Kingdoms

Over the period of a few hundred years,Buddhism flourished in Nanzhao and Dali Kingdoms which was always called as "Buddhist Country of Ganhalaraj" and unique Acaray was formed Akshobhya is not only the Oriental Buddha of Five Dhyani Buddhas in Acaray a.In the period of Nanzhao and Dali Kingdoms,the position of Akshobhya was obviously enhanced and it gradually become the supremacy of Five Dhyani Buddhas by the influence of political factors,foreign elements and so on.With the loss of Dali Kingdoms,the status of Acaray gradually declined since Yuan dynasty.And the worship system which centered on the Akshobhya Buddha had died out.The faith of the Akshobhya Buddha,as one of the important characterization of Acaray,occupies a prominent position.Detailed studies on the statues of the Akshobhya Buddha can further explain the cultural characteristics of Acaray and supplement the development process of religious culture in Yunnan.Taking the statues of the Akshobhya Buddha in the period of Nanzhao and Dali Kingdoms as an important clue,this thesis explores the statues of the Akshobhya Buddha and its artistic features and styles.At the same time,this thesis explores the cultural relations and the development between the statues of the Akshobhya Buddha and the Central Plains,India,Tibet,Southeast Asia and other regions,and then this thesis continues to discuss the reason of its development and change and the cultural information contained in it.The statues of the Akshobhya Buddha had been affected by a variety of cultures in the process of formation,integrating and forming its own unique features.These features had also embodied the characteristics of the statues of the Akshobhya Buddha.Therefore,all of the characteristics of statues,source of style and development process of the Akshobhya Buddha are the topics which will be emphatically discussed.This thesis is based on the material data due to the lack of historical documents on Buddhist statues during the period of Nanzhao and Dali Kingdoms,combining with Buddhist scriptures and relevant historical data.These materials verify with each other and the further discussion made on the basis of the existent academic achievement.
