A Study Of Marcuse's Ideology Of Medium

The rapid development of internet technology,and new media such as mobile phone,social network and internet client has diversified the communication ways of ideologies,rendered ideologies more extensive influence compared with traditional media,and made their communication means more unnoticeable.Accordingly,it has become a significant subject of the epoch on how to safeguard the safety of socialist ideology in times of big data when the new media is developing swiftly.Against such a backdrop,Marcuse's "media are ideology" thought presents its important value for research.The thesis elaborated Marcuse's thought of"media are ideology",and conducted systematic analyses from perspectives of ideology source,ideology content,ideology development and ideology value.The ideology source sector indicated linkages among Marcuse's thought,Marx,Husserl and Heidegger,and explained what Marcuse has inherited from Marx's outlook on the alienation of science and technology,Husserl's theory of "life-world" and scientific and technological ideology of Heidegger and how he has developed them.In terms of ideology content,Marcuse's "media are ideology" thought was divided into two parts:neutral criticism of scientific technology and media control theory.The "generality-to-concreteness" method was manifested in this part:as media is included in the scientific technology,it is logical to explain the generality of the scientific technology and further illustrate the concreteness of the media.In addition,the media control theory was categorized into a country's control on media and media's control on ideologies.Considering the profound impact of Marcuse's thought of"media are ideology",Habermas,Birmingham School,North America Empirical school and Media Ecology School have responded to it from different perspectives respectively.It is a remarkable fact that on one side,Birmingham School,on the basis of recognizing Marcuse's thought,raised the concept of audience subjectivity;on the other side,North America Empirical school and Media Ecology School conducted objective investigations on the media communication with the application of Positive Scientism.Both merits and demerits exist in their studies,which still have facilitated a substantial development of the media theories.The paper adopted methods of question research,literature research,and integrated research on multiple disciplines and referred to English materials(having not been translated yet)of Marcuse and those remarked by renowned foreign scholars.Accordingly,the thesis produced an innovative understanding that Marcuse's media thought shall be the commodity service and scientific technology of developed capitalist societies,and broke the barrier of constraining Marcuse's thought only into traditional media and new media,a usual practice by the domestic field,expanding the media scope to political,economic and cultural sectors.Based on such an understanding,Marcuse's "media are ideology"thought has significant implications to the safety of our country's socialist ideology in the new media time:our country shall conform to the new media trend in its building of socialist ideology;the media communication mechanism must be transformed and innovated and more active measures against the ideology penetration from the west shall be taken,in order to fight for China's right in international discourse;our country shall also insist on the people-oriented philosophy and promote an in-depth integration of media.
