A Practice Report On Interpreting For The Opening Ceremony Of 2016 Shandong (Ji'nan)International Tourism Fair

Along with the development of economic globalization,tourist industry,an important branch of the tertiary industry,has become more and more essential for the economic growth of most countries in the world.The development of international tourist industry,to some extend,relies on the promotion and publicity conducted on platforms such as international tourist trading fairs.In this kind of activities,interpreting plays an important role since faithful and efficient interpretation can help the both sides get over language and cultural barriers to have an effective communication.Such communication will bring more opportunities to the tourist institutions and organizations,hence it can promote the development of international tourist industry.The author worked as one of the interpreters at the "Shandong(Ji'nan)International Tourism Fair" in June of 2016.The Fair,featuring a large scale and impressive number of participants,was participated by tourist firms and organizations from various countries and regions as well as local government officials.At the opening ceremony,two high-rank government officials delivered speeches in Chinese.These two speeches have contents ranging from knowledge about international tourist industry,scenic spots,and tourist firms,to the relevant theories,practices,development and forecast.Taking the implementation of interpreting of these speeches as the object for analysis,this report explains the process and contents of advance preparation,discusses challenges and errors,solutions and experience,and puts forward suggestions.From the perspective of review,reflection,and discussion of the interpretation practice,the author completed this paper in the hope of providing useful references for future practice.Based on this interpretation practice and case study,the author draws the following conclusions:First,careful and thorough preparation is the precondition for a successful interpreting;Second,self-confidence,flexibility,and concentration are the essential characteristics of excellent interpreters.
