The rapid economic development of China has attracted the attention of people from around the world and the increasingly frequent exchanges and cooperation have given rise to a boom in the interpreting industry. It is very obvious that interpreters are playing a more important role in promoting exchanges between China and foreign countries. The “Forum on Wood from Finland & Match-making Conference(Chengdu)” was held to enhance Chinese people's understanding of Finnish wood and for Finnish suppliers to explore the Chinese market.Due to the language barrier, there was a great demand for interpreters and requirements were relatively high.As a postgraduate student majoring in English interpreting, the author has learned a great deal of interpreting theories and practical skills. In the process of this interpreting task, the author combined the three principles of Skopos theory: skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule with relevant interpretation skills, and was therefore able to successfully complete the interpretation task. This report consists of five parts. The first part introduces the description of the interpreting task including the background information of the task, the requirements of the task and the significance of the task. The second part mainly describes the process of the interpreting task. The third part is the key part of the report in which the author first analyzes the guiding significance of Skopos theory for interpretation, and then analyzes the difficulties and coping strategies in the process of interpreting. The difficulties are listed as vocabulary shortage, adaptation to the accent of a Finnish Speaker using English, chaotic situations, the inappropriate tone of the guests and the coping tactics including replacement, anticipation, professionalism demonstration and adjustment respectively. In the fourth part of this paper, the author lists the feedback from the clients and his own self-reflections on his interpreting task.In the last part of the report, the author reviews the entire interpretation process again, summing up his improvement during the process. The author hopes that this paper can provide some practical and effective guidance to other interpreters as a reference. However, there are still many areas of interpreting which need to be explored.
