A Report On A Mock C-E Simultaneous Interpreting Based On Skopos Theory

There is no doubt that big data,artificial intelligence and cloud computing will be the important development direction in the next decades.Making full use of the strategic role of data resource can enhance China’s protection ability of cyberspace data sovereignty and safeguard the security of the State.It can also help promote international competitiveness.However,there are few conference interpreting cases based on Big Data Expo in China.In order to help more foreigners learn about this rapidly changing country of science and technology,it is necessary to interpret some of the speeches into English.The author takes Jack Ma’s speeches at China International Big Data Industry Exposition as the practice material to do a mock C-E simultaneous interpreting practice under the guidance of Skopos Theory.The author analyses some cases in this report,which aims to explore the scientific interpreting tactics and strategies between the source language and the target language.Skopos Theory holds that interpreting is a purposeful activity.Skopos Theory includes three rules,namely,the skopos rule,the coherence rule and the fidelity rule.The purpose of Jack Ma’s speeches is to make the audience gain the information and understand what he said effectively.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory,the author uses interpreting strategies such as addition,omission,substitution and restruction to interpret.The author is faithful to the speeches and the whole interpreting is coherent and fluent.Generally speaking,the audience can follow the speaker and they can interact well with each other,which achieves the communicative purpose of the speeches.This report summarizes the interpreting practice.Through the summary,the author finds some problems in the process of interpreting,such as complex sentences,reversed words order and words repetition.The author adopts the methods of segmentation of sense groups,restruction of syntax and omission to solve these problems.The author hopes that this practice report will be helpful to the future conference interpreting.
