A Thousand Splendid Suns, one of the the best-sellers in America in 2007,witnessed a breakthrough selling of 1.05 million within 4 days and earned star comments and praises from such authoritative medias as The Washington Post,Library Journal,Booklist,by which,Khaled Hosseini,an ethic minority writer, became popular in American and won the United Nations Humanitarian Award.A Thousand Splendid Suns pictures the story of two women,Mariam and Laila, who was 18 years younger than the former,in which Mariam and Laila tolerated their violent husband,Rasheed in the war-ridden Afghanistan in the later half of the twenty century and finally Mariam killed Rasheed to save Laila's life. This paper aims to make a close reading of A Thousand Splendid Suns from the perspective of Feminist Ethics of Care and analyze Mariam's and Laila's three stages of moral development and discover ethical problems of care, love, responsibility and relationship,in which there would be an emphasis on how Mariam and Laila manage to make a transition from confusion to awakening during their moral development and voice for themselves in war-ridden and patriarchal Afghanistan. The analysis shows that there are conflicts and controversies between ehics of Mariam and Laila and society ethics in patriarchal Afghanistan, which neglects women's needs and emotions. However,Mariam and Laila's women qualities, care and love for others, strong responsibility and building relationship with others never disappear, which is in accord with what Feminist Ethics proposes that love, care, responsibility as well as the concept that morality is based on relationship of human beings are stressed in Feminist Ethics, reflecting the differences between women and men's inclinations on ethical and moral judgments. The analysis of A Thousand Splendid Suns from the perspective of Feminist Ethics of Care, which is a new research perspective, enriches the study of Feminist Ethics of Care and is suggestive for readers and scholars.
