Study On Poems Of Liao Xingzhi

Liao Xingzhi was a poet in the early period of the Southern Song Dynasty.And about his 412 poems have passed down,works including poem,Ci and prose.During his lifetime,the strong family traditions and Public morals had played a significant role in the development of his ambition.In spite of the unsuccessful official career,he still stuck to his ambition.These life experiences had greatly influenced the characteristics of his works.This Master thesis regards Liao's poems as the research object to explore his cultural personality,poems' contents and characteristics.In the Southern Song Dynasty,a time of the prosperity of Confucianism,Liao was born in a family advocating Confucianism and most of his friends were Confucians,therefore Statecraft and Confucian kindheartedness had exert huge impact on his cultural personality.However,Liao's families including himself were failed in official career,which made his thoughts changed,leaded to the detached and secular thought.The multifaceted nature of cultural personality directly influenced the creation process of Liao's poems.His Recollections Poems not only involved in the worry about the nation and people,but also his personal feeling.Object-chanting Poems and Leisure Poems,revealed his pursuit of virtues and leisure life.Liao's Friendship Poems reflected the interaction between his colleagues or friends and himself.However,because of different objects,his feelings were different.For instance,as for friends,he was full of real feelings,while he was out of courtesy for his colleagues.In addition,due to the influence of Confucianism thought,Liao's Neo-Confucianism Poems inevitably felled into the reasoning mode,but in some poems,the reason and scene,emotion and truth could be unified.Liao's poems presented a natural and clear style,which was closely related to the writing techniques.On the words level,his poems didn't avoid the commonly-used characters,and tended to use overlapping words.According to statistics,the frequency of overlapping words in Liao's poems was 184,which was one of the biggest feature.On the sentences level,the majority were subject-predicate type,while few of them were special structure,like inversion structure,reflecting the variety of the form.Additionally,Liao cited other's sentences and used allusions.These approaches were worthy of recognition,but new meanings can be hardly found out from some of them.In Poem Rhyme,Liao always used Yin rhyme in ancient style poems.Rhyme were often used in the first line of modern style poems,and the rhyme words were relatively concentrated.In summary,affected by the multifaceted nature of cultural personality,Liao's poems had a wide range of topics,such as expressing the true feelings or just for entertainment.And the latter,limited his creative pattern.Liao pursuit elegant poems' style,that means the words,sentences,layout and rhyme he adopted in his poems were nature and flat.In addition,the Song poems are insipid,so the natural style had been a distinctive feature of his poems.
