This is a project report on the translation of The Fairy Tale of The Classic of Mountains and Seas.The book is an adaptation of The Classic of Mountains and Seas in a form of fairy tale which is written by Lin Yiwei,a modern fairy writer and collector.The Fairy Tale of The Classic of Mountains and Seas tells many fairy tales based on the Classic of Mountains and Seas and the author adds much of his own imagination and creation so that the stories are more exaggerated and readable.The type of this material is fairy tale,which belongs to Children's literature.As a branch of literature,children's literature not only embodies the characteristics of general literature but also has its own conspicuous features: unique linguistic characteristics,children-orientation and educational functions.Children are the future of the world,and children's literature has an important effect on children's healthy growth and education.With the frequent intercultural communication,the interchange of children's literature in the world is deeper and more closer.At the same time,children in different countries exist difference in language and social culture,Therefore,it is vitally important to pay attention to the translation of children's literature.The translator meets many difficulties during the translation.For example,how to keep the childish of the original text and how to perfectly deal with the long and difficult sentences in order to cater to the interest of children.In the process of the translation,the author is led by the theory of Linguistic Adaptation Theory,which is put forward by Jef Verschueren.According to adaptation theory,language use is a selection process,a dynamic process that adapted by the contextual and language with each other.The theory is much like ‘natural selection',besides,the theory comforts to the process of translation.Through the sample analysis,the thesis focuses on three aspects: structural adaptation,contextual adaptation,and some typical translation strategies under the adaptation theory.Through the translation,translator concludes that the adaptation theory can guide and explain the translation of children's literature to a great extent.The author exerts subjective ideas in the translation under the theory.The translation report aims to offer certain reference significance for the translation of domestic children's literature in the future,especially the fairy tale.
