Based on the analytical framework of Max Weber, this paper reveals the fact in terms of domination, city and law that the society and economy of Islam is the political capitalism. And the author attempts to illuminate the implicit relationship between the ethics and the political capitalism of Islam, and evaluate the causal significance of religious ethics in the making and sustaining of political capitalism of Islamic society from a perspective of multicausality. Also, according to the capitalist typology of Max Weber, with reference to the history and reality in social development of Oriental and Occidental civilizations, this paper will make a comprehensive and deep contrast between political and modern rational capitalism at the level of social formation. By this, the author intends to isolate the essential difference: the intrinsic attribute of rational capitalism lies in producing and creating the social wealth, whereas that of political capitalism consists in extracting and consuming the social wealth. It is the foundational difference which results in the entirely different developmental process of Oriental and Occidental civilizations in history. Finally, in combination with the view of history and multicausality of Max Weber, the author tries to interpret this fact that the different religious ethics respectively produced the effects on the rise and expansion of two capitalisms.
