Kazuo Ishiguro,an English novelist of Japanese descent,known as one of the “UK emigrant writers”.loneliness of childhood and misfortune of immigration life let him feel tortured,so loneliness is always an important theme in all his works.So characters from his works are always struggling to loneliness.Ishiguro's major works includes "A Pale View of Hills","An Artist of the Floating World","The Remains of the Day","The Unconsoled" and so on.His fictions won Booker Award in 1989,and he won the medal of the British Empire,the medal of French Art and the madel of Literature Knighthood,as well as many other awards.He has made a wide influence around the world,and loved by the readers.Based on the experience and his understanding of his own creation,the solitary theme is found running through all his work.Thorough deep investigation about the dilemma of his characters,the reason why they had suffered so much would be easily discovered.Kazuo Ishiguro's works not only expresses his understanding of the living conditions of modern people,but also shows his humanistic care.However,he is often puzzle with faint pessimism.The thesis consists of three parts including the introduction,the text and the conclusion.The text is divide into four parts.In the first part,the origin of the solitary theme has been analyzed.The lack of family affection and the embarrassment of immigration have already affected his creation.Kazuo Ishiguro pays much attention to the destruction of people's living environment and psychological environment.Post-modern ethics crisis and the proliferation of consumerism has been also put into his creation.In the second part,according to the individual encounter and personal identity,Kazuo Ishiguro reveals solitary prison,which performs as distortion of space and time.The fourth part discusses the predicament in modern cities,including the loss of belonging,unconcerned relationship and the alienation among people.
