The novels of Kazuo Ishiguro : A Pale View of Hills,An Artist of the Floating World,the Remains of the Day,the Unconsoled,When We Were Orphans,Never Let Me Go,and the Buried Giant are full of writings of memory,and this phenomenon has raised the concerns of foreign and domestic scholars,therefore,there has been lots of discussion about memory in Kazuo Ishiguro's novels.But the ways of Recalling Writing that Kazuo Ishiguro used in his novels have different value appeals,which the researchers didn't pay much attention to,so it's of big significance to have a deep study on the Recalling Writings in Kazuo Ishiguro's works.Setting out from the details of memory description in the novels,using the theories of Cultural Memory for references,adopting research methods of close writing,and taking a systematic study on the contents,patterns and meanings of Recalling Writing in Kazuo Ishiguro's novels.It will be helpful to get to know the values and characteristics of his work.The process of recalling is the way to represent memory,and the objects represented by Recalling Writing is the characters' original memory.In Kazuo Ishiguro's work,the characters' memory is composed of traumatic experiences,the memory of identity including personal history,and the collective memory shared with others.The memory presented by the characters' recalling process is the main objects of Recalling Writing in the novels.Recalling is the symbolic reconstruction of original memory.And the Recalling Writing in Kazuo Ishiguro's work is presented as a kind of narrative strategy.The writer uses the narrative strategies such as Dual Narrative Space,Unreliable Narration and Floating Narration,and he takes the fragmentized traumatic memory,the memory of identity and collective memory from the consciousness of characters,in order to merge the memories into a coherent story,and he also let the characters use languages to speak it out.The original memories scattered in the characters' consciousness turn out to be an object which has been represented vividly,and can be observed by the readers.The Recalling Writing can be an effective way to express one's thoughts and feelings.In Kazuo Ishiguro's writings,the recalling of protagonists presents the original memory which contain the dilemmas of human beings,meanwhile,The Recalling Writing in Kazuo Ishiguro's novels have the features of reconstructing memories,adapting memories and expressing memories.Therefore,Memory Writing is endowed with the functions of consolation,self-verification,mourning and reflection,and to some extent,it can help to solve the dilemmas in the original memory of characters.Recalling is the specific and mutual mental mechanism of mankind,and the Recalling Writing may arouse sympathy among readers,meanwhile,Kazuo Ishiguro use it to carry his multiple humanistic cares and historical thinking.
