Kazuo Ishiguro is a well-known contemporary British novelist. His work contains an internationalist creative concept. This creative concept is not only reflected in the theme of his novels, but also in the spatial writing.Ishiguro's novels involve Japan,Britain,China,Central Europe and other multi-ethnic regions, and show the conflicts and integration of multicultural spaces. There are also many metaphorical significant architectural spaces and geographical spaces. The cultural significance, power relations, emotional factors and social environment contained in these spatial writings have profound value. The purpose of this thesis is to make a detailed study of the literary space writing of Ishiguro's five novels, with reference to the spatial theories and post-colonial theories of Foucault,Said, and Homi Bhabha.By analysis of geospatial and empire image, power space and colonial relationship, multicultural space and identity, this thesis tries to reveal the metaphorical meaning of space and explore the author's unique perspective of postcolonial criticism. The thesis consists of three parts: introduction, main text and conclusion. The main text is divided into five chapters. The first chapter provides a theoretical foundation for the whole thesis: Foucault's theory of power and space, power and discourse,Said's post-colonial space theory, and Homi Bhabha's relevant expositions on the "hybrid" space of culture.Analysis of the postcolonial research value of his novels based on his life experiences, creative ideas and thematic implications of his works.Next, the consciousness of postcolonial criticism in Ishiguro's novels is carefully analyzed from the three aspects of space writing. The second chapter mainly analyzes the geographical space writing of Ishiguro's novels. The empire gives geopolitical space special political significance. The purpose of the imperialism occupying space to declare sovereignty,to show their identity,or to maintain their rule and to consolidate their powers is to shape a great image of the empire.Kazuo Ishiguro completed the construction and deconstruction of the image of the empire by comparing the space before and after, the living conditions of the characters, and the psychological changes. The third chapter mainly analyzes the power space writing and his criticism of colonial relations of Ishiguro's novels. The subject of power uses isolation of space and internal grading to create a power space, and uses discourse, knowledge education and other disciplines to form a power relationship, which creates a survival dilemma for the governed. The author writes about the oppression of power and the resistance of the governed under power, which reflects the possibility of people changing the world and an attitude against power oppression. The fourth chapter mainly analyzes the multicultural space and individual identity crisis of Ishiguro's novels. The multi-cultural space created by Ishiguro's novels,on the one hand, shows the cultural conflict between the East and the West and the "racial gaze" of the West on the East, and reveals the true nature of the manipulative culture of the Western hegemony. On the other hand,it shows the identity crisis of the diaspora in the multicultural space, and the manifestation and impact of this crisis, implying the author's complaint about the unequal discourse system and his concern for marginalized groups. The fifth chapter is a general summary of the post-colonial criticism consciousness of Ishiguro's novels through the analysis of the above three levels. The postcolonial criticism consciousness of Ishiguro's novel lies in his attitude against colonial rule and hegemonic culture, and it also shows an internationalist writer 's concern for marginalized groups.Ishiguro's novels not only proclaim the sense of responsibility, but also suggest the way of salvation in an era of globalization.
