The Quest Theme In Patrick Modiano's Novels

Patrick Modiano is a famous contemporary French writer,winner of the 2014 Nobel prize for literature.Modiano pays special attention to the life and mental state of the modern urban people who under the big pressure.His novels continue to the motif model of pursue of the western literary tradition,and try to explore the spiritual crisis and outlet of the modern people.This paper takes Modiano's novels as the research object,analysis the search process and significance of the novel "pursuit" motif of people under the "homeland","identity" and "historical truth",and then discusses the writer's Thoughts on the individual existence of modern city.This thesis consists of three parts: introduction,main text and conclusion.The introduction mainly introduces Modiano's life and the general situation of the creation,the domestic and foreign scholars' research on his works,and the research ideas and significance of the thesis.The main text analyzes and expounds the theme of Modiano's novels from three aspects.The first chapter analyzes the modern urban individual facing the home of the lost,and then show these individual efforts to pursue the ideal home,the process of pursuing the ideal home the writer pointed out that is actually a process of returning the past home.In the second chapter,the author analyzes the problem of the lack of identity of the marginalized groups in the city of France,in his works,the author tries to search for the lost self identity of the marginalized people by looking for the "absent" father,splicing the fragments of memory and reconstructing the self identity,the process of searching for self identity by these small individuals has caused the modern people to think deeply about their identity.The third chapter discusses the writer's pursuit of historical truth,through the text and history of intertextuality,discourse subversion and history of literary fiction,Modiano reveals the western world into modern civilization those covered false myths in the history of capital",rebuilt the historical truth.Modiano dig the illness of modern society by recalling and pursuiting to reveal the spiritual dilemma of common urban individual.Where I come from?Who am I? The truth exists or does not ?Modiano's a series of pursuit of family,identity and the truth of the history is also a philosophical reflection on human survival circumstances.He captures the common memory of human beings in the way of literature,reflects a writer's ultimate concern for human destiny.
