Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol is one of the most outstanding writers in Russia in the19th Century. He promoted the development of Russian critical realism literature.Gogol enjoys a high reputation in Russian and even the world literary circles. Hecreated many classical works with their unique and enduring artistic charm, whichbecomes a literature treasure.Gogol's works reflect the superb narrative ability, unique language charm,profound social concern, and so on, which attracted a large number of researchers, andproduced a number of outstanding research results. Based on the previous studies, thisthesis uses a new perspective to explore the relationship between the art of paintingand Gogol's literary creation, and explores the application and influence of painting artin his creation. Painting and literature both belong to the category of art, and they haveinteroperability, mutual influence, mutual reference and supplement. As a master ofliterature, Gogol has a very deep origin with the art of painting. We can find suchpainting elements as composition, line, color and light in Gogol's novels, thesuccessful use of which opened a spectacular, mysterious world of art for words.In this thesis, the introduction part briefly introduces Gogol and his major works,then summarizes the current situation of the research on his works and points out thesignificance and objectives of this study. The first chapter discusses the mutualinfluence and blending of painting art and literary works based on the semiotictheories. The second chapter introduces the origin of Gogol and the art of painting anddiscusses the complex of painting in his literary creation. The third chapter describesthe relationship between the art of painting and Gogol's literary creation, anddemonstrates the influence of painting art on Gogol's literary creation. The conclusionpart summarizes the relationship between painting and Gogol's literary creation,expounds the value and significance of the integration of literature and painting, andshows the originality by the use of painting techniques in his literary works.
