This is a translation project report. The original text is the English version of Eat,pray, love--One Woman' Search for Everything across Italy, India and Indonesia. It is a 2006 travel memoir written by American writer Elizabeth Gilbert with its own language style. Travel memoir is a relatively young literary genre. Nowadays it is more popular and attracting worldwide attention. The book has been translated into more than 30 languages, and remained on The New York Times Best Seller list for 187 weeks. Based on the translation practice of chapters one to ten, this project report analyzes major issues and difficulties including the translation of cultural terms, rhetoric devices, long and complex sentences as well as the difficulty with language style. The report explores feasible translation strategies to deal with the difficulties encountered during the translation process, namely annotation and free translation for translating cultural terms, amplification, omission, and changing word order and division of sentences for translating long and complex sentences. The report also discusses the recommendations for future translation projects.
