Fox Image In The Ancient Literature And Its Cultural Implication

In Chinese classical literature,as often appear in ancient literary works,fox image occupies a significant position.its social coverage is extremely broad that no one can match it in the numerous animal's image.In the process of development,from the original totem into the fox spirit's typical image,so the fox has become a culture,and percolate to Chinese people's literature and life.Fox image in the ancient literature has experienced a long and tortuous process development,constantly absorb new blood,and abandon the transient characteristics of being obsolete,eventually developed to a new height in the strange tales of a lonely studio which was written by Pu Songling in Ming and Qing Dynasties,then has a far-reaching effect to the later ages.The main research methods of this thesis are documentation method,historical comparative method and logical analysis.And this paper will devote to trace the history of the history about the foximage's development,at the same time,focus on studying the cultural connotation of the fox image in the strange tales of a lonely studio.On this basis,the article will compare the fox image in Chinese ancient literary works with the elf image in the Western literature for find out the common ground and the difference of the two.The aim is to make the fox image in the Chinese ancient literature has a intensive interpretation.This paper will divide into three parts.The first chapter traces the development of the fox culture,the author searched for a variety of historical texts,then study the fox culture in the pre-Qin period and the Han Dynasty,the South and North Dynasty,the Tang Dynasty,and the Ming and Qing Dynasties.It focuses on the characteristic and cause of the fox culture's evolution in each period.The second chapter focuses on the strange tales of a lonely studio and analyze the cultural connotation of the fox image from three aspects: the unity and opposition of human and nature,humanized objects which containing aesthetic ideal as well as the desire of inner self by meansof breaking through traditional social restraints.Third chapter,the fox image in the China ancient literary works and the elf image in the Western literature were compared and analyzed in terms of the characteristic of the image,the relationship with human and nature,as well as the cultural connotation.The comparison will offer a new angle to the exchange of them.This article aims of making the Chinese fox literature be understood accurately by study on the fox image in the Chinese ancient literature works and the comparison between the Chinese and Western,then make a modest contribution to inspired the communication of the Chinese culture between the Western culture.
