China is the birthplace of tea culture.Tea is indispensable for Chinese,no matter they are wise scholars or plain forks.However,thanks to vast territory,multiple ethnic groups and diverse customs in China,tea culture reveals distinctive ethnic features and regional features and gradually develops into various brilliant ethnic tea customs and regional tea customs.Thus,the author takes Chinese tea custom as the object of her Chinese to English translation practice.The source text is an excerpt in Tea Ceremonies and Tea Classics(2013)which belongs to literal informative text.In the report,based on the translation practice,the author makes a concrete report for the whole translation process,takes typical challenges encountered in translation as examples,analyzes the corresponding translation strategies in details,discusses the contradiction among readers' acceptability,translator's purpose and Chinese culture dissemination in culture translation.The report consists of four parts:The first part is task description.Give a brief introduction to the reasons for text selection,the purposes for topic selection,the significance of translation practice,the current status of tea culture translation and the target readers.The second part is task process.Introduce three steps of translation practice in details.In preparation,analyze the characteristics of the source text,study parallel text and related materials,create the terms glossaries.In translation,introduce the targets,achievements and significance of four more detailed steps.In proofreading,modify from the aspects of spelling and grammar,syntax and discourse,and the applicability of translation strategies respectively.The third part is case study.First of all,introduce Skopos Theory put forward by German functionalist school,the guiding theory of the translation practice.Secondly,summarize the two challenges encountered in the practice,namely how to deal with the language structure and how to balance the contradiction among translation purposes,readers' acceptability and Chinese culture dissemination.Finally,guided by Skopos Theory,the author takes multiple examples with comparing version in translation and make a detailed analysis to the strategies that are adapted to address the above mentioned two challenges.The fourth part is conclusion.Make a general conclusion to the enlightenment,gains and deficiency in the translation practice.In the translation practice,the author has clear translation stand,understands translation principles and adapts corresponding translation strategies in order to disseminate Chinese tea customs,ethnic culture and regional culture to the largest extent within the readers' acceptability,on the basis of which explores the best translation methods to the texts of the same or similar type.
