This report focuses on the first two chapters of the book The Pursuit of Inquiry by Jay Schulkin, which covers several different disciplines, such as the speculative philosophy, psychology, biology, neuroscience and related practical research.Because of its academic feature, this work is characterized by technicality, specialty and objectivity, which should be preserved as much as possible in translation.By considering the semantic and syntactic features of academic texts, this report analyses specific examples in my translation practice to propose some useful strategies for academic translation by which translators can convey the original meaning in an accurate and objective manner. This report consists of four parts.Part One describes the research object and research significance.Part Two introduces the task procedures including preparation, practice and proofreading.Part Three is the case analysis.First it analyses the diction and meaning from four aspects: how to choose the proper meaning, the translation of synonyms, the translation of terminologies and the translation of the word “one”.Then go the word order and reordering.Part Four comes to the conclusion of the whole report.
