The Siku Quanshu is a large scale collection and organization of the ancient Chinese books,at the same time, the Siku Quanshu Zongmu is also a comprehensive summary of the traditional Chinese academic research. The Siku Quanshu Zongmu included a large number of Buddhist literature inside and outside the Buddhist category, all them had the introduction of main content and evaluation of advantages and disadvantages. This thesis studies the attitudes and conceptions of the Siku Quanshu Zongmu to Buddhism by discussing the setting of the Buddhist category and summarizing the understanding and evaluation of the introductions to Buddhism in the Siku Quanshu Zongmu. The first chapter reviews the origins and changes of the Chinese classical books catalogs collectting Buddhist literature in four kinds of situations, and confirms some of the basic historical facts.Section one of the second chapter inspects the Siku Quanshu Zongmu's collection, evaluation, utilization, and quoting of classical books catalogs. It also inspects the Siku Quanshu Zongmu's criticizing and referencing of classification method of them. All this work is to reveal the resources and ways of the Siku Quanshu Zongmu absorbing and utilizing the thought resources of classical books catalogs how they collected Buddhist literature.Section two summarizes general principles for the setting of the Buddhist category in the Siku Quanshu Zongmu by using the main materials, and then revisits the problem that the Buddhist category's preface explained why the Siku Quanshu Zongmu had arranged the Buddhism and Taoism at the end of Department of Philosophy was following suit the example of Ruan Xiaoxu's Qi Lu.This statement is not only absolutely wrong because be of being contrary to the historical facts, but also obviously conflict with others statement in the Siku Quanshu Zongmu elsewhere.Combined with the contents of the first chapter and the conclusion of the second chapter section one,we finally found what the Siku Quanshu Zongmu's arrangement of putting Buddhism and Taoism at the end of Department of Philosophy completely is a continuation of the tradition of classical books catalogs' setting of the Buddhist category in Song and the Ming Dynasty.Section three constructs a basic completely text formation sequence for the Siku Quanshu Zongmu by making use of Zhejiang Caiji Yishu Zonglu,Siku Quanshu Chuci Jincheng Cunmu,Siku Quanshu Huiyao Zongmu Tiyao, and other materials. We re-visit the problem of the order of Buddhism and Taoism by putting it into this text formation sequence, finally found that the order of Buddhism and Taoism in the Siku Quanshu Zongmu is actually the result of an adjustment had made during the period of Qianlong thirty-nine years in July to Qianlong forty years in midSeptember. This adjustment had been made was for carrying out the authority and will of Emperor Qianlong, however the statement of the Buddhist category's preface why the Siku Quanshu Zongmu had arranged Buddhism in the front of the Taoism is following suit the example of Weishu Shilaozhi and Ruan Xiaoxu's Qi Lu,was actually attached to later in order to adapt to the results of this adjustment, meanwhile this kind of nominally flaunt has been verified once again in the production of Midian Zhulin.Based on inspecting of the understand and evaluation of Buddhism from the introductions of all kinds of books in the Siku Quanshu Zongmu, the second chapter summarizes the Siku Quanshu Zongmu's conceptions of Buddhism mainly as six aspects, they are the knowledge of Buddhism and the history of Buddhism, excluding Buddhist causality, reincarnation and the concept of the gods, opposing the interpretation to Confucianism with Buddhism, criticizing the fusion of Buddhism-Confucianism and integration of Confucianism-Buddhism-Taoism,the comprehension of the relationship between Buddhism and other schools of thought and religions, and recognizing the Buddhism's contribution to the Chinese traditional culture.
