Vast majority of the world cultures exist or existed an approach to recite classic which is between singing and speaking, which is called Yin-song by Confucians, while Fan-bei by Buddhists in China. There are many similarities between Yin-song and Fan-bei. They both are strongly related to disciplines like linguistics, literature and music. They both are inherited from mouth to mouth. They both can cultivate one's original nature and build up one's body. The study of this paper is based on the similarities between Yin-song and Fan-bei. Especially they both naturally have the properties of crossing disciplines like linguistics, literature and music, thus become good object of study in comparative literature and worldwide literature. This paper attempts to explore the differences under similarity and find out reasons of these differences between Yin-song and Fan-bei by comparative study of them. Comparative literature continuously pays attention to textual study, ignoring non-textual study. Studies on national cultural classics and oral tradition are rare. This paper hopes to draw people's attention by comparative study between Yin-song and Fan-bei, for I can't do further study by now considering my knowledge structure and research ability. I waits for more intellectuals to join in. On the other hand, Chinese traditional culture has serious loss because of the impact of western culture in the late century, which consequently causes big difficulties in the inheritance and development of Yin-song and Fan-bei. As a student of liberal arts with culture conscience, I'm willing to do some foundation work to raise concerns for traditional culture. This paper is based on vast fieldwork and combined with texts. Influent study and parallel study are used as main study approaches. The writer discovers that Yin-song was established as teaching methods by Confucius, then turned into writing methods by Qu Yuan. After practice and inheritance by bookmen of all times like Xie An, Li Bai, Du Fu, Yao Nai, Zeng Guofan, Tang Wenzhi and Tang's students, Yin-song has become the reading method, basic writing method, culture inheritance method, main teaching method, self-cultivation method and life's nourishing method. Yin-song is generated in China, which is used by many bookmen naturally and consciously. Fan-bei spread to China from India originally, initiated and created by Buddhists and laites like Cao Zhi, Zhi Qian and Emperor Liangwu, has been sinicized inevitably. Under the influence of Dao An, Hui Yuan, Bu Kong and Emperor Yongle, etc., Fan-bei gradually evolved from a separate practice into group practice blend with the rituals, Tantrum incantation, reciting Buddha in five different tones, etc. Therefore Fan-bei was introduced from abroad, created by Chinese Buddhists and laites. After the sinicizing, Fan-bei has changed both in its form and the content. Although there are many similarities in Yin-song and Fan-bei, there are still lots of differences between them. Fan-bei is religious, sacred, ritual and collective, while Yin-song is more educational and personal. Yin-song is close to language, and it must observe such principles:level tone is long, oblique tone is shor, tone is controlled by word, intonation is controlled by word's meaning. while Fan-bei can be recited or sung, which is more close to music and has more musical requests. Fan-bei inheritance needs more of the collective strength, while Yin-song depends more on personal endeavor.
