A Study On Evolution Of Apollo's Image In Ancient Greece

Apollo,as the most ideal iamges and role model for the ancient Greek,was projected by numerous emotion and consciousness.So Apollo's well-developed and complex image was formed.However,due to the neglected diachronic study of the images of Apollo,they eventually has been integrated simply in mythology.Therefore,according to the theory of three ages by Vico,which combined with the viewpoints of symbolism of Cassirer and the semantics of Kristeva,to analyze the evolutionary images of Apollo is trying to find out the transformation of the ancient Greeks' thinking mode.In the primary stage,referring to the Homeric Epics,Apollo,as the son of Zeus,could be recognized as a god of silver arrow,prophecy,music and light.The image inherited the symbols of myth in quantity,and presented a concrete-image with the feature of visual comprehensiveness.In the medium term,based on the ancient Greek tragedies,Apollo could be regarded as a god of prophecy and sun instead of the former images.The image had changed some contents of the old symbols into a micro-image,which had the character of the virtual-real grandness.In the later period,according to the Plato Dialogue,Apollo could be considered as a god of intelligence and law.These images abstracted the ancient symbols and became an abstract-image with the feature of ideal and splendor.In conclusion,through analyzing the evolution of Apollo's images,it demonstrates a special perspective on the transformation of the ancient Greeks' thinking pattern.Precisely speaking,different images in different periods show the concrete-image-thought,micro-image-thought and abstract-image-thought respectively.
