With rapid development of globalization,communication is increasing between China and other countries in science,technology and culture.The textbook translation with the aim of imparting scientific knowledge is becoming more and more important.The textbook translation relates to the majority of students to contact with the world's most advanced scientific knowledge,and provides knowledge reserves to the majority of scientific research workers.This translation practice report is based on the translation practice of one part of the book Study Skills for Linguistics.This book is written by Jeanette Sakel,who is a senior lecturer of linguistics at the University of the West of England.This book introduces relevant knowledge of linguistics and summarizes some basic skills of linguistics learning,which has guiding significance for beginners of studying linguistics.Based on Nida's functional equivalence theory,this translation practice report explores problems at lexical level,syntactical level and textual level during the translation process.By analyzing cases appearing in the source text,this translation practice report concludes that the functional equivalence is able to guide the translation of linguistics textbook,and achieve equivalence at lexical level,syntactical level and textual level.Finally,the translation practice report is intended to provide suggestions for the translation of linguistics textbooks.
