English-chinese Translation Of The Instruction Of ASP-CON Activated Sludge Plant Controller

Products with English instructions are rapidly entering Chinese market.Therefore,the translation of English instructions into Chinese is important,which affects the installation,use and maintenance of the products.In this thesis,through the translation of the instructions of manual and brochure of the activated sludge controller,the characteristics of this instructions on levels of lexical,sentence,style and so on are explored,and the some English-Chinese translation strategies of the instructions are used in order to have a better guide of translation and achieve the purpose of the functional equivalence of the instructions.Under the guide of functional equivalence theory,the translation strategies are chosen as follow: translating by POS and conversion,amplification and omission,division and combination as well as literal translation and free translation.These strategies are applied for the multi-level problems of word formation,lexical repetitive redundancy,translation of long sentences and simple sentences,styles and different expressions due to cultural differences between English and Chinese,in order that Chinese readers can get the same accurate understanding as English readers of the original text through analysis of the translation process.This report on the translation practice is going to deal with those problems.
