Mobile devices are featured with mobility and the potentials in rich multimedia resources,which make learning different from traditional ways and make it shift from stable,formal,and personal into informal,dynamic,and interpersonal learning.In general,mobile assisted language learning(MALL)is the educational activity that utilizes mobile devices to promote language learning performance.Mobile technologies firstly being applied to learning was at the end of 1990 s and they have been applied to the practice of language teaching and learning for almost two decades.Abroad and domestic researchers and scholars are interested in the proposition that how to promote learners? language learning performance with the help of mobile devices and have yielded impressive results.This research adopts the task model as the research framework with an emphasis on the three influential factors,namely control,context,communication and utilizes review as the research method to structure and analyze 131 empirical studies collected from MALL related conference and key journals published in 2000 to 2016.This research aims at exploring and answering: 1: What is the status quo of MALL empirical research in terms of control,context,and communication? 2: What are the major problems existing in control,context,and communication of MALL empirical research? 3: What should researchers do to generate better empirical research of MALL in the future?The results show that MALL is still in its developmental phase and more solid empirical results are needed to consolidate the achievements;presently,the problems mainly are empirical experiments with a small scale of participants and a short period of time;researchers need to produce more empirical studies to provide real results,solid evidence,and effective guidance.Based on the research results,the writer provides some suggestions that in designing and conducting MALL researchers should pay more attention to control,context,and communication,which are often ignored in the practice.Only the six factors of the task model,i.e.control,context,communication,tool,subject and object are all taken into account and integrated into the whole process of learning,can the learning activity achieve optimal results.
