Simply speaking,Englichin refers to the awkward, impenetrable Chinese usage that is obviously affected by English. It has a great negative impact on both the translation quality and ecology of the Chinese language. Not a few researchers have tried to tackle with the problem and obtained significant achievements;yet all those studies only investigate it at the lexical, grammatical or syntactical level, ignoring issues exiting at a higher level—text. This thesis studies the Englichin at textual level by way of coherence and cohesion.Based on Zhang and Liu's Model of Coherence,it conducts a comparative study on the two Chinese versions of Steve Jobs, the aim of which is to explore the types and causes of Englichin at textual level and the ways of dealing with it.Through theoretical analysis and case study, this thesis comes to the following conclusion:(a)Englichin at textual level represents an abnormal cohesive relation in the Chinese text that, because of its obvious reliance on the features of English cohesive mechanisms, makes the text incohesive and even incoherent;(b)this relation can be classified into five major types that appear most frequently with significant influence on the translation quality;(c)and the main cause of this problem is the cohesive mechanism disparity between English and Chinese. Moreover, corresponding solutions to these problems are also provided.
