Analysis On The Quality Of The Chinese Translation Of Steve Jobs' Speeches From The Perspective Of Tytler's Translation Principles

Apple products,iPhone,iPad,iMac,are winning loyalty from more and more Chinese customers when they continue to make waves around the world.In addition that products speak for themselves,Apple marketing strategies are also gaining much more popularity and recognition.Steve Jobs,as the former CEO who has led Apple to the great success,made speeches in every new product release conference and no doubt that speeches from Steve Jobs had made mighty contributions to the success of every marketing event.As a vital part in a speech,speech text delivers the main idea and purpose of the speaker.To learn from the speech text,practical speech skills and presenting methods could be better revealed and improved.Speech text is an important type of pragmatic texts.To study the translation of speech text is an effective way to know and improve the translation study of pragmatic texts.Speech Collection of Steve Jobs,Live to Change the World,collected some famous speeches,like Follow Your Heart and Think Different.It was edited and translated by Wang Ruize and it played a key role in promoting Jobs culture in China.Translation methods that Wang Ruize applied was literal translation on most occasions.Sentence by sentence translation could convey the original meaning and style in good ways to a great extent.However,when literal translation method is used too much on practical texts like speeches,translation version could lose some essence from the original.This thesis aims to analyze the translation of Speech Collection of Steve Jobs' from the theoretical perspective of A.F.Tytler's three translation principles.Tytler's translation principles were brought forwarded by famous English translator Alexander.F.Tytler.This thesis adopts the three translation principles by A.F.Tytler and hopes to be able to demonstrate the practicability of Tytler's translation principles on practical texts.The Whole thesis will contain five chapters.The first chapter is literature review,which will give specific introductions and comments on the study of Tytler's translation principles and Steve Jobs' speeches from home and abroad.The Second chapter introduces more about Steve Jobs' speeches and the third chapter plans to study deeper about Tytler's translation theory and bring in different views on this theory.The forth chapter is the main body of this thesis following with conclusion,applying with Tytler's translation principles to analyze the translation of Steve Jobs' speech collection.The study aims to be beneficial for promoting the translation of Steve Jobs' speeches,and attract interests from those who value Steve Jobs' speeches,calling for more and better translations.Under the framework of Tytler's translation principles,this thesis also dedicates to develop the recognition of translation study of speech texts,which in return will interpret and extend the theory itself in a multi-faceted way.
