Journey to the West mainly spread in Chinese version in a long time when the readers were mainly Chinese after the story was published.Until the end of 19 century,the first 100-chapter edition Journey to the West which translated by Yap Goan Ho was published in Low-level Malay.After Yap's translated version,there were another 3 version published in Indonesia,respectively were: Auw Ing Kiong's version,Kwee Khe Soei's version and Yan Wijaya's version.Before Yap's version published,a version that selectively translated from the 9th to 11 th chapters named Lie Sie Bin(Emperor Taizong of Tang)Toured around the Underworld was published in Semarang,Central Jawa,Indonesia.Jouery to the West in Indonesia was translated mainly from two Chinese versions in Qing dynasity,which was published with complete edition or abridged edition after translation and adaptation.The ancestral home of Chinese-Indonesian were mainly in Guangdong and Fujian province,therefore,the types of drama of Journey to the West also mainly came from these two provinces.It was the Gaojia opera,Puppet show,Budai puppet that spread comprehensively among the dramas from Chinese.Between 1840 and1940,the development of the three dramas above had culminated which were performed with Southern Fujian Dialect.However,they faded from the view after the War World II because of many historical reasons.Nevertheless,the Puppet show and Budai puppet,after improving and fusing Indonesian national style,are still performed with Indonesian language in somewhere and gradually become the national artistic forms in Indonesia.Two Journey to the West serials comic in Indonesia language successively published in Jakarta from 1981 to 1984.The painting style of the first 14-books serial are adapted from Zhang Guangyu's comic that created in 1945 while the second 6-books serial,influencing by Japanese comic,had made some differences in painting style compared to the first serial.The second serial comic had been gradually divorcd from Chinese comic and formed its own characteristic.In addition,Indonesia introduced two TV play series which made by TVB Hongkong and translated into Indonesian language and then broadcasted in Indonesian TV programs.It is good for Indonesian to know and comprehend Journey to the West.It is a specific and technical study about communication situation of Journey to the West in Indonesia with the methods of document analysis,questionnaire andfield visit and the theory of International Communication,which is a study hoping to attract the attention of the scholars who are willing to making specialized research on Journey to the West.
